Clifton is a small city located in Washington County, Kansas, in the United States. It has a population of approximately 575 people, according to the 2020 US Census. Clifton is situated in north-central Kansas, about 100 miles west of Kansas City. The city was founded in the 1860s and originally served as a stop for cattle drivers on the Chisholm Trail. Today, the economy of Clifton is mostly based on agriculture, and the town serves as a center for farming and ranching activities. The town has several community events throughout the year, including a Fall Festival, a Christmas parade, and a 4th of July celebration. Clifton also has a public library, several parks, and a fitness center.
